Formula
Base labor hours equal estimated exterior square footage divided by production rate. Adjusted labor hours apply story, siding, growth, and access multipliers. Direct cost includes labor, materials, equipment wear, overhead, and travel/setup cost. Recommended price equals direct cost divided by one minus target margin.
Example calculation
Example only: a 2,400 square foot exterior estimate with two stories, vinyl siding, average growth, moderate access, a 900 square foot hourly production rate, and a 35% target margin creates a pricing starting point before verifying scope and access.
