Soft Wash Mix Ratio Guide
This guide explains soft wash mix math as a calculation aid only. It is not chemical safety training and does not recommend a job-specific mix for any surface.
What a soft wash mix calculator does
- A soft wash mix calculator helps estimate how much starting sodium hypochlorite, water, and surfactant are needed for a target batch. It does math only. It does not decide what chemical strength is safe or appropriate for a job.
Basic dilution math
- A common dilution calculation is desired final percentage divided by starting percentage, multiplied by batch size. The result estimates the amount of starting solution in the batch. Water is the remaining batch size after that amount is included.
Starting SH percentage vs desired final mix percentage
- Starting percentage is the strength of the sodium hypochlorite product before dilution. Desired final mix percentage is the target percentage for the finished batch. The desired percentage should not be higher than the starting percentage.
Batch size and water amount
- Batch size is the total amount of finished mix you want to estimate. After the calculator estimates SH amount, water amount is batch size minus SH amount. Always review your math and units before using any result.
Surfactant amount math
- Surfactant amount can be estimated as batch size multiplied by your chosen surfactant amount per gallon or liter. Follow the product label and your own professional process when deciding what amount is appropriate.
Example calculation
- Example only: for a 20 gallon batch, 12.5% starting SH, and 3% desired final mix, the math is 3 divided by 12.5, multiplied by 20. That gives 4.8 gallons of starting SH and 15.2 gallons of water before surfactant. This is a math example, not a job recommendation.
Safety reminder
- This page is not chemical safety training
- Do not use calculator math as a substitute for labels, training, PPE, ventilation, storage, or local requirements
- Do not mix chemicals unless you understand the risks and proper handling requirements
- Always follow product labels, manufacturer instructions, and professional safety practices
